Where to Ride E-Dirt Bikes Near Lake Oconee

Trail passes
- Georgia national forest trails (Town Creek, Whissenhunt, Oakey Mountain, Beasley Knob) are $5 per rider per day. A $50 annual pass covers all of them. Buy on Recreation.gov.
- South Carolina national forest trails (Parsons Mountain, Cedar Springs, Enoree) are also $5 per rider per day, with a separate $50 annual pass. Buy on Recreation.gov.
- Private parks charge their own admission. Call ahead for current rates and to confirm electric bikes are welcome.
- National forest trails close when they're wet, and some north Georgia areas close for part of the winter. Check before you load up.
Where you can't ride
Most e-dirt bikes are not e-bikes under Georgia law. Georgia e-bikes have working pedals and a motor under 750 watts. A Segway, Sur-Ron, or Talaria is treated as an off-road motorcycle, so unless it's registered and street legal, it can't go on public roads, sidewalks, or paved trails like the Firefly Trail. It also can't go on national forest hiking or mountain bike trails. Stick to the spots on this page, or private land where you have the owner's permission.
Tips for riding an e-dirt bike
- Charge the night before and know your range. Hills and sand drain the battery fast, and there are no chargers on the trail.
- Mountain trails use a lot more battery than the flat trails near Greensboro. Start with shorter loops until you know your range.
- Electric bikes are quiet. Other riders and hikers may not hear you coming, so slow down on blind corners.
- Wear a real helmet, goggles, gloves and boots. Every spot on this page requires or recommends a helmet.
- Protect your eyes. Good sunglasses or goggles keep dust, roost and branches out of your eyes.
- Stay off wet trails. It protects the trail and keeps these places open.
