About the ride
Parsons Mountain is run by the Long Cane Ranger District of the Sumter National Forest and is one of the closest national forest trails to Lake Oconee after Town Creek. The trail is managed for ATVs and dirt bikes only, so no Jeeps or side-by-sides wider than 50 inches.
It's a one-way loop through hardwood bottoms and pine stands, with plenty of ups and downs on piedmont clay. A two-way cut-through lets you ride one big loop or two smaller ones, which is handy when you're keeping an eye on battery range.
Cedar Springs OHV Trail is about 20 minutes away near Greenwood, so you can ride both in one day on a single pass.

From Abbeville, take SC 28 south past the SC 72 intersection, go 4.9 miles, then turn left on Tower Rd (FS 515).
Good to know
- Call the Call Before You Haul hotline at (803) 561-4025 before you go. The trail closes when it's wet.
- Buy your pass on Recreation.gov before you leave home. Cell service can be spotty.
- Wear bright colors during hunting season.
- The Parsons Mountain Lake recreation area nearby has camping.
