About the ride
This is the Greene County section of the Firefly Trail, a rail-trail that will eventually run 39 miles from Union Point to Athens. The finished stretch runs from downtown Union Point, through the small town of Woodville, and up to the Oglethorpe County line.
It is almost flat and wide enough to ride side by side, which makes it a good pick for families, e-bikes, beginners, and anyone who wants easy miles. Much of it is open to the sun, so go early in summer and bring water. There are no restrooms on the trail itself.
Want a little more? The town of Maxeys has its own paved Model Mile section heading north from Cherry Street, a short drive up the road.
