About the ride
The Man O' War Trail follows the old Central of Georgia railroad bed south from downtown Pine Mountain, past Callaway Gardens and FDR State Park, through Hamilton, and on to Mulberry Creek. It's named for the famous racehorse and the passenger train that once ran this line between Columbus and Atlanta.
The trail is wide, smooth, and mostly shaded. It's flat through the towns but climbs and rolls over the Pine Mountain ridge, so expect more climbing than a typical rail-trail. That makes it a great ride on an e-bike.
It's an easy add-on to a Callaway trip. A popular out-and-back is downtown Pine Mountain to the Callaway Country Store and back, about 9 miles.

Street parking near the Pine Mountain Visitor Center, about half a mile from the north end. Other trailheads: Chipley, Hood, Callaway Country Store, Hamilton Square, and South Hamilton.
Good to know
- Restrooms are at the Pine Mountain Visitor Center.
- The grades over Pine Mountain are long and gradual. Save some energy for the ride back.
- Mile markers and trailhead kiosks with maps are along the route.
- Free to ride.
